THE WAY THERE

Kibale · Queen Elizabeth · Bwindi · Mgahinga

Room for the remarkable.

DAY 01

Transfer to Kibale National Park & Bigodi Wetland Walk

+

Pick up early in the morning from your residence in Kampala and drive westwards to Kibale National Park, famously known as the primate capital of the world. On arrival, check in at your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a guided walk through the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. This community-run project is rich in biodiversity, home to monkeys like the red colobus, black-and-white colobus, and mangabeys, as well as over 200 bird species. The swamp walk is also an excellent cultural encounter, giving you an insight into local community initiatives. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 02

Chimpanzee Trekking & Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

+

After an early breakfast, report to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for a briefing before heading into Kibale’s tropical forest for chimpanzee trekking. The trek lasts between 2–5 hours depending on their movement, and once found, you’ll spend an hour observing these intelligent cousins of ours. Watch how they feed, groom, and interact with one another in their natural habitat.

After trekking, check out and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Have lunch en route and arrive in time for an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. The boat safari is a highlight of the park, with close encounters of hippos, elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles, and a wide array of birds. Later, stop at the Kikorongo Equator monument for photos and a brief relaxation before checking in at your lodge. Dinner and overnight at Queen Elizabeth.

DAY 03

Game Drive & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

+

Wake up early for a sunrise game drive in the Kasenyi plains of Queen Elizabeth. This section of the park is famous for its prides of lions, large herds of elephants, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, and sometimes even the elusive leopard.

After the game drive, begin your transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a stopover at the Great Lakes Museum for lunch and a brief cultural and historical experience. Proceed through the rolling hills of southwestern Uganda and arrive at Bwindi in the evening. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 04

Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Cultural Visit – Transfer to Kisoro

+

After an early breakfast, head to the UWA briefing point at 7:30 am where you’ll be assigned a gorilla family. The trek takes you deep into the ancient Bwindi forest, and once you encounter the gorillas, you’ll spend one precious hour observing these gentle giants. Marvel at their human-like behavior, social interactions, and the raw wilderness that surrounds you.

In the afternoon, refresh at the lodge before joining the Batwa cultural experience. The Batwa people, former forest dwellers, will showcase their traditional songs, dances, and survival skills. This is a moving encounter that blends culture and conservation. After the visit, check out and transfer to Kisoro town. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and rest.

DAY 05

Golden Monkey Trekking & Lake Mutanda

+

After breakfast, drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for golden monkey trekking. These playful, strikingly beautiful primates are unique to the Virunga ranges, making this experience exclusive to this region. Watch them leap through bamboo forests, feed on shoots, and interact socially. If lucky, you may also spot gorillas and other wildlife within the park.

Return to the lodge for lunch, then head to Lake Mutanda for a relaxing boat cruise. The lake is Uganda’s second deepest, surrounded by volcanic peaks, terraced hills, and tranquil waters. The scenery here is breathtaking, making it a perfect way to wind down the day. Return to your lodge in Kisoro for dinner and overnight.

DAY 06

Transfer Back to Kampala

+

After breakfast, check out and start your return journey to Kampala. Stop at the Kayabwe Equator monument for photographs, souvenir shopping, and a brief demonstration of the water experiment. Lunch will be en route, and arrival in Kampala is expected in the evening. Drop-off at your residence or hotel.
